Public education is the foundation of strong communities and a healthy democracy. It’s where our children learn not just math and reading, but how to think critically, dream big, and work together. Durham for All members believe that all kids in Durham deserve quality public education, all school staff deserve fair pay, and all parents and caregivers deserve to be heard in the decision making processes. It’s the responsibility of the Durham Public Schools Superintendent, administration, and Board of Education to value all DPS staff and support all students’ growth regardless of race, gender, class, or ability. Now is our time to hold them accountable.
Our goal is to support 300+ parents, caregivers, and community members to connect with each other, identify shared issues, and organize to defend and transform our public schools. Working together with Durham Association of Educators (DAE), we will demand the changes our youth, families, teachers, and all DPS workers need and deserve. Top priorities that parents, caregivers and community supporters have identified include solving the transportation crisis, protecting students from ICE and bullying, higher pay and better working conditions for teachers, and improving communications between school administrators, staff, and families.
We already know the most effective way of changing our conditions is to organize together! When parents and community members fought alongside DPS workers in 2023, we won a historic $27 million increase in funding from the County Commission. As our campaign for better education for all picks up speed, it is time to organize in your neighborhood and your school, and build power towards a Durham where everyone can thrive!
